Wao, Lanao del Sur – The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Wao, in partnership with the Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children (LCAT-VAWC), began the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW) with a Fun Run and Zumba session on November 29, 2024. The event took place in front of the Municipal Building and marked the start of a meaningful advocacy initiative.
This annual campaign is spearheaded by the LGU under the leadership of the highly active and supportive Municipal Mayor, Hon. Elvino B. Balicao Jr., and his wife, First Lady Mdm. Melit Jaurigue Balicao. Their dedication to the welfare of women and children underscores the importance of the campaign in addressing issues of violence and promoting equality in the community.
The opening event was well-attended by LGU women employees, members of the KALIPI Women’s Organization, and female employees from various government line agencies. Participants actively joined the activities, symbolizing their commitment to the campaign’s objectives.
A series of activities has been organized throughout the campaign to further raise awareness and encourage collective action. These initiatives aim to educate the public, empower women, and fight against all forms of violence targeting women and girls.
The LGU of Wao continues to call on the community to unite in this vital cause, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts to eliminate violence and build a society where women and children can feel safe and valued.
